Organised sport has never seen anything like the events of the last few months. The longest general suspension of live events, in countries across the globe, outside of World War Two. A crisis forewarned in theory, but whose details were completely unknowable even late in 2019.
Major soccer tournaments, annual tentpoles, world championships and, uniquely in peacetime, an Olympic Games off the calendar. Contests held behind closed doors, possibly for many months to come. Organisations working remotely even as they scramble to remain financially solvent.
